There
are essentially 3 venues for the Chesapeake stopover of the Race:
Baltimore:
The finish of Leg 5 of the Volvo Ocean Race will take place at Baltimore Light, north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Baltimore Light is located east of Gibson Island, approximately 5 nautical miles NNW of the bridge (39 03.554’N / 076 23.949’ W).
The annual Baltimore Waterfront Festival
will be held throughout the Inner Harbor in conjunction with the Race
and is where the boats will be docked until they move to Annapolis. The
Festival was inaugurated during the 1998 Race and attracted 400,000 people
in 1998 and continues to be attended by 300,000 each year. maps
Annapolis:
The sailing capital of the United States, Annapolis will welcome the Race
fleet at City Dock adjacent to the U.S. Naval Academy prior to the start
of Leg 6. 60,000 people visited the 1998 Race Village in Annapolis. maps
Chesapeake
Bay Bridge: The Restart of the Race will
take place south of Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Thomas Point. Boats will go north, round a buoy (just south of the Bridge), then race back south through the starting line again - which will now be a gate. Then its down the bay and up to New York. There will be a 5nm long spectator exclusion zone x 2/3 mile wide.
The Annual
Bay Bridge walk, in which 50,000 walkers participate, will coincide with

Frequently
Asked Questions
1.

Keep in mind that the finish time and day is weather dependant. It could very well occur at night. After each boat finishes, it will motor into the Inner Harbor to the arrival pontoon at the end of the Constellation Pier for a short ceremony.
b. If you plan to view the finish from the water at Baltimore Light, please consult boating
information further down in this document.
2.
When will the boats finish?
a.
This is highly unpredictable and weather dependant. The boats will leave Rio de Janeiro on April 2. Depending on wind strength and direction, we expect the fleet to arrive in Baltimore on April 17. Check our website for updates as the fleet progresses up the coast. Please come down to the Inner Harbor for the arrival ceremony at any time, day or night.
3.
Where will the boats be in Baltimore? Annapolis?

Science Center in the Inner Harbor. (see map)
b. Annapolis - the boats will be docked on docks at the end of City Dock.

Ocean Race in 2006. The region's newest large-scale event returns with
a phenomenal array of maritime exhibits, vendors, activities and contests.

a. The Parade of Sail will start in
Baltimore's Inner Harbor at 12:00. The boats will keep a leisurely pace
from Baltimore to Annapolis, arriving in time for the 5:00 Welcome Reception
at the City Dock in Annapolis (see map).
b. If you
are planning to view the Parade of Sail from the land, Baltimore's
Inner Harbor at noon and Annapolis City Docks at 5:00 are clearly your
best
options. Optional viewing locations would be the Ft. McHenry National
Monument (between 12:30 - 1:30) or Tide Point - 1040 Hull Street Baltimore,
MD - http://www.tide-point.com.
We will not be able to designate a specific time of passage for the fleet

of Sail and re-start -
spectator boats will not allowed closer than 200 feet to the race boats.
Spectator boats are also required to be prudent and use good judgement

for other spectator boats in the area. There will be a significant law
enforcement presence, including the US Coast Guard, for all three events.
For the Re-Start, several designated spectator viewing areas will be available.
A 5-mile long exclusion zone (2/3 mile wide) from the Bay Bridge
