Website Shines Light On Volvo Ocean Race & NOAA (WJZ) Baltimore, MD, October 10, 2005 A new interactive web site is being introduced today highlighting a first-time partnerhsip between the Volvo Ocean Race and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The web site is designed to be an educational tool for students and teachers in the Chesapeake region. It is designed to teach middle school students how to track the race around the world using weather forecasting. NOAA's Ocean Race coordinator Randy Schneider says the web based learning tool gives educators curricular materials about the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006, the physics of execution, impact of weather and the atmosphere and calculations required to complete and win the race. Classrooms will predict the exact time the first boat will cross the Chesapeake finish line of Leg 5 between Rio de Janeiro and Baltimore. Up to two winning classes will participate in Ocean Race Adventure Kids Day on April 28, 2006 during the Chesapeake stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race. (© MMV, CBS Broadcasting, Inc.
