Volvo Ocean Race Kick-off Party at Fawcett Boat Supply!
What: The Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival, in partnership with The Volvo Ocean Race and the Eastport Yacht Club, is hosting this Kick-off party for the start of the Volvo Ocean Race that begins in Vigo, Spain and travels to Annapolis in May of 2007. The party is free and open to the public
Where: Fawcett Boat Supply, 110 Compromise Street, Annapolis, Maryland
When: Saturday, November 12th from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm
The Volvo Ocean Race will begin again November 12th in Vigo, Spain and in celebration the Maryland Maritime Heritage festival, in partnership with the Ocean Race Chesapeake and the Eastport Yacht Club, will be holding a kick-off event. Because of their significant roles in designing components of the race boats, the party will feature expert speakers from Farr Yacht Design and North Sails. There will also be race updates, video and entertainment from Annapolis band Steropool. Refreshments will be available from Heineken, Mount Gay Rum, and Boordy wines and Red, Hot, and Blue.“This race is only comes once every four years and the boats are bigger and faster than ever and with the addition of the American boat “Black Pearl” this could be one of the best races in recent years,” stated Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival President Andy Hines.
All are encouraged to attend and learn more about this exciting race. Annapolis Alderman and MMHF board member Mike Fox said, “We wanted to make this event open to everyone, this Kick-off party is designed to attract all of those with an interest in learning about sailing, the race, or our maritime community in general.” This event will be an exciting kick-off for the race and the Annapolis stopover this May during the Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival.
