Volunteer with Ocean Race Chesapeake

In just a short time, we will host the arrival of the Volvo Ocean Race on the Chesapeake Bay and will stand ready to welcome the syndicates and their crews to our stopover. We hope you have been following the race on the Internet: www.VolvoOceanRace.org and we know you have checked out this web site already for stopover plans and schedules. As we gear up for the arrival of the Volvo Race, it is time to get our volunteer force in ready mode and we hope you will join us in hosting this exciting international sailing event! Below is a list of the volunteer needs identified so far.

These volunteer opportunities will change daily and will continue until the day the boats leave for La Rochelle on April 28. Please take the time to fill in the Volunteer Registration Form to give us an idea of the dates and times you will be available. We will do our very best to accommodate your preferences.

1. Baltimore Volvo Ocean Race Village at the Baltimore Waterfront Festival
April 15 - 26
Weekdays: 11:00 am - 7:00 pm (1100-1900)
Weekends 10:00 am - 9:00 pm (1000-2100)

Office Help:
Starting NOW! We need help answering phones, helping with mailings, office work (dealing politely with the public, could involve a lot of walking)

Sponsor Liaison: Assist with our Sponsor Fulfillment efforts

Event Help: Set up, ticketing, greeter, check credentials and passes (may need to stand outside for periods of time)

Media: Receptionist, runner, press assistant

Information Booth: Greet visitors and answer questions in an outdoor setting

Breakdown: Prepare the Race Village for the departure of the yachts and the Parade of Sail to Annapolis

Beer Sales: Must be 21 years of age with no history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Race Experience: Explain to the public the inner workings of a Volvo 60 using a full-scale cutaway model

2. Annapolis Volvo Ocean Race Village at the Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival
April 26 - 28
Weekdays: 11:00 am - 7:00 pm (1100-1900)
Weekends: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm (1000-2100)

Office Help: Phones, mailings, all office type work in a fast-paced, hectic environment

Event Help: Set up on April 25, ticketing, greeter, check credentials and passes (may need to stand outside for periods of time), breakdown on April 28.

Harbormaster: Assist the Annapolis City Harbormaster round-the-clock with a variety of outdoor work on the Volvo Race docks

Media: Receptionist, runner, press assistant

Information Booth: Greet visitors and answer questions in an outdoor setting

3. Sandy Point Volvo Ocean Race Village at Sandy Point State Park - Race Restart Festival
April 27 - 28
Saturday 10:00 am - 7:00 pm (1000-1900)
Sunday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (0900-1700)

Event Help: Set up, ticketing, greeter, check credentials and passes (may need to stand outside for periods of time)
Bridge Direction: Direct Bay Bridge walkers to the Sandy Point Volvo Race Restart Festival.
Information: Answer general questions about the Race and Village activities
Beer Sales: Must be 21 years of age with no history of drug or alcohol abuse.
